Computerized Decision Support Systems for Nursing Homes: A Scoping Review

ObjectivesTo summarize the research literature describing outcomes of computerized decision support systems (CDSSs) implemented in nursing homes (NHs).DesignScoping review.MethodsSearch relevant articles published English language between January 1, 2000, and February 29, 2020, Medline database. The quality selected studies was assessed according to PRISMA guidelines Mixed Method Appraisal Tool.ResultsFrom 1828 retrieved, 24 were for review, among which only 6 randomized controlled trials. Although clinical are seldom studied, some show that CDSSs have potential decrease pressure ulcer incidence malnutrition prevalence. Improvement process such as increased compliance with practice guidelines, better documentation assessment, improved teamwork communication, cost saving, also reported.Conclusions implicationsOverall, use NHs may be effective improve patient health care delivery; however, most retrieved observational studies, significantly weakens evidence. High-quality needed investigate CDSS effects limitations NHs.
